Include your macOS version, the audio source, and the translation engine you're using so we can help faster.

Common questions

How do I start transcribing?

Open GlossOne from the menu bar, pick an audio source (your microphone, system audio, or a specific app), and press start. The transcription and its translation appear line by line; open the floating captions to overlay them on a meeting.

What audio can GlossOne transcribe?

Your microphone, the audio playing on your Mac, or a single app such as Zoom or a browser. Capturing system or app audio uses macOS Screen Recording permission, which you grant once in System Settings.

Can it work without sending audio to the cloud?

Yes. Speech recognition runs on-device with WhisperKit, and translation can run on Apple's on-device translator (macOS 15 or later). With those, the audio and text never leave your Mac. Cloud engines stay available whenever you want them.

Which translation engines are supported?

Apple's on-device translator, DeepL, Google, Microsoft, Tencent, Baidu, Youdao, Alibaba, Volcano Engine, Amazon, OpenAI, Claude, Gemini, or any local OpenAI-compatible model via Ollama or LM Studio. GlossOne talks to each one directly with your own keys, so there's no relay server in between.

What can I export?

Export a transcript or subtitles as SRT, VTT, TXT or Markdown. Every session is saved to a searchable history you can revisit or export later.

How do the free trial and purchase work?

GlossOne includes a 7-day free trial. Unlocking it is a one-time purchase, no subscription, handled entirely through Apple's App Store. If you've already bought GlossOne, use “Restore Purchases” in the app's settings to unlock it on a new Mac.

Where are my API keys stored?

API keys, tokens, and secrets are stored in the macOS Keychain on your device. They're used only to authenticate requests to the engine they belong to and are never sent anywhere else. For more, see the Privacy Policy.

Something isn't working. What should I send?

Email us with your macOS version, the audio source and engine you're using, and a short description of what you expected versus what happened. A screenshot of any error message helps a lot.
